Financial Controller
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000/annum
Title: Financial Controller
Must have experience within the construction industry!
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Management of two staff.
- Ensure ledgers are reconciled and maintained to the highest standards.
- Liaison with other departments, most notably commercial, to ensure that the monthly cycle of reporting runs smoothly and accurately. Challenge where necessary.
- Attend Board meeting, present Finance papers, and actively contribute to non-Finance matters.
- Preparation of month end management accounts with meaningful and insightful narrative.
- Ownership of Profit & Loss, Cash Flow and Balance Sheet reporting.
- Contribution to project pipeline and driving accuracy of forward looking reporting.
- Drive the whole team to work to a reliably monthly reporting cycle.
- Streamline and improve accounting systems and processes, and interfaces with other systems.
- Improve cost allocation accuracy and embed systems.
- Oversee subcontractor CIS payments and payroll.
- Tax compliance (VAT, PAYE, P11D, and Construction Industry Scheme).
- Develop and document first class processes required to lay foundations for growth and general support of the business.
Candidate requirements
- (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with minimum 2-3 years post qualification experience.
- A self-starter, with energy and drive.
- High standards of workmanship a given.
- An eye to evaluate current working practices, spot potential improvements, and see through.
- An ability to identify problems and issues from day-to-day operations by analysing revenues, costs and trends.
- Will not accept poor and weak processes. Attention to detail, and systems of working that ensure that the standards of the Finance department is high.
- See support and development of the team as core to management style.
- Great communications skills at all levels.
- Ability to challenge senior management when necessary.
- Ability to visualise and deliver a fundamental “raising of the bar” on how Finance supports the business.
- Ability to identify commercial opportunities and work independently, or with the team, to deliver improvements to the bottom line.
- Construction industry experience.
- SME experience.
- Working knowledge of Sage and Procore and the efficient use thereof.
- Knowledge of “lean processes” or process improvement, and experience in delivering change.
